Taida Tarabuła

This is a tradition known in one Polish village only, Sławatycze, Eastern Pl. During three last days of a year, young men from the village wear special colourful dresses and transform themselves into so called Beard Men. Then they go out on the streets and try to fear passers-by. They stop cars, they catch mainly girls and kids and shake them on the sticks roaring like wild beasts... All this serve to make the caught people happy throughout the next year... At the end, just before the New Year Eve, they undress and burn some parts of their clothes (those made of straw)...
